In 2016 Ubuntu started removing the Droid Sans Mono font as it's apparently replaced by Noto Mono.
Above are Github issues from the time and the link to a main Google page about Noto.
It's claimed that the Droid fonts are good for devices with small somewhat low resolution screens - IE the hardware of the early Android phones. The Librem5 and PinePhonePro phones also have low resolution screens so this seems like a benefit.
The noto fonts directory in Debian/Unstable takes 59M of storage and the Noto Sans Mono ttf file is over 499K compared to 117k for Droid Sans Mono.
Looking at the Noto Sans Mono and Droid Sans Mono fonts on screen in English I can't see a difference, apparently one significant benefit of Noto is support for other languages. Is there any difference between Noto and Droid apart from multi language support?
Would it make sense to package Droid Sans Mono to support English language terminal programs on low resolution phone displays? We have the proportional version of the Droid font so it seems consistent to do that. I've already made a package of this for test purposes and I'm now considering whether it's worth uploading.
Also I'll probably ITP the Roboto Mono font which seems good for laptops.
